Poverty is closer to home than we may realise
October 17th marked the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2019. The Hartlepool Action Lab team held and event at the Central HUB in Hartlepool, asking those who attended what poverty meant to them and how it made them feel. From these conversations we got an insight into what peoples lived experiences of poverty are and below is some quotes we received on the day:
It is not right that in our society poverty and destitution exist. The Hartlepool Action Lab are working with the people of this town to support them out of poverty and to live fulfilling lives. If everyone does the same we will be able to solve the issue that is poverty in this town. Be compassionate of others, give your time freely and your community will prosper. Small gestures go a long way, speak to people ask them how they are doing and give those in the most chaotic of situations, hope that they can see better days.
